He paints in a confident manner that suggests forms rather than furiously delineates them. This impressionist approach allows both the artist and his viewer to languish momentarily in lush patches of brightly hued paint.

Cosby reinterprets the tradition of American impressionist Guy Rose, whose atmospheric works immortalized the California landscape in the early 1900s.  Painting en plein air affords Cosby firsthand access to nature’s changing light and weather conditions, and as such, requires that he paint relatively quickly. His work bears an extemporaneous quality in keeping with the modern lifestyles he observes.

There is a peaceful mood that permeates Cosby’s work – an unhurried pace that invites viewers’ prolonged enjoyment. His candid style and his motifs which celebrate moments of leisure lend an air of calm appreciation for life’s incidental beauty.

Cosby is a founding member of the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association, an Artist member of California Art Club and an Artist member of Oil Painters of America. In 1999, Cosby was elected the Chairman of the Laguna Plein Air Painting Competition, held at the Laguna Art Museum. His work has been featured in American Art Collector and Southwest Art magazines, and can be found in many private, public and corporate collections around the world.
